AWARDED 2008 JOE KRIER INDIANA QUALITY DEALER OF THE YEAR
The Indiana Independent Automobile Dealers Association is proud to announce DEL REAL AUTO SALES of Lafayette as our 2008 Joe Krier Quality Dealer of the Year. This award was presented to Tony Del Real at the association's annual golf outing and awards day which was held on September 7th at Ironwood Golf Club in Fishers. The Quality Dealer of the Year is chosen based on several attributes. The dealership must be consumer oriented, and the dealer must have a record of good business decisions based on honesty and integrity. Also, the dealership must represent themselves as a civic leader within the community. Del Real Auto Sales represents all of these attributes.
Del Real Auto Sales is truly a family owned and operated business. The dealership was founded in 1987 at 1116 Main St. in Lafayette by Tony's father, Jose Del Real, as a hobby. Jose was a full time employee at Alcoa in Lafayette, where he retired from after 30 years of service in July 2004. Jose Del Real has 4 children. Sons Tony, Alonzo, and Eliseo are all involved in the auto business. Daughter Angie's husband Hector is also active in the business.
What began as a hobby quickly escalated into a thriving business. Enduring the rapid growing pains along with Jose Del Real were his sons who helped with all aspects of the auto business. In 1988, land was purchased at 3857 State Road 38 East in Lafayette for the dealership and in October 2000 Del Real Auto Sales opened its new dealership on State Road 38. Tony's brother Alonzo owns and operates Del Real Auto Connection on Schuyler Avenue while brother Eliseo owns and operates Legacy Auto on Highway 52.
"Our focus is to provide outstanding service and affordable pricing on transportation," Tony Del Real said. "Our goals are to build relationship and maintain a high level of repeat business." Del Real's strengths, according to Tony, are going the extra mile for their customers, making certain that they are 100% satisfied before and after walking through their doors. Del Real Auto Sales stocks more than 120 quality pre-owned vehicles.
Tony is President of the United Businesses Serving the Community which works to integrate the Hispanic-American population into the community and increase their participation in the social, economic, cultural, educational, and religious life in and around Tippecanoe County by offering community seminars, and business referrals. Tony also serves as President of the Lions Club, and is a member of the mayoral commission for Latino Affairs, Better Business Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and NFIB. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Independent Automobile Dealers Association. Tony is an Indiana University graduate class of 2000. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Amy, and enjoys spending time with Amy and their three children, Kaleb (6), Kaden (4), and Victor (1).
"Our goal for the future is to continue to grow and build relationships with the community," according to Tony. The staff of Del Real Auto Sales is bilingual and has been servicing a large portion of the Hispanic community in the Lafayette area for more than 20 years.
Del Real Auto Sales will represent Indiana at the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association Convention in Orlando, June 2009. They will compete with Quality Dealers from other states in the National Quality Dealer Award Program. The primary purpose of the Indiana Independent Automobile Dealers Association is to address legal and legislative issues that confront the used car industry and to promote the businesses of its members while serving the public interest. The Indiana Independent Automobile Dealers Association has supported independent used car dealers in Indiana for more than 21 years. The association is proud to have Del Real Auto Sales as this year's "Quality Dealer of the Year."
